When Bill and Jane Macomber gave a talk on cemetery preservation last fall
for Penobscot County
Genealogical Society in Bangor, they spoke about the good work of Hope Historical
Society in putting
Hope cemeteries on the Web.I took the time to check out the society's website
at hopehist.com and
was impressed with the variety of resources members have put online. One
topic is Families, which
ranges in offerings from a bit of genealogy to family history to photos,
depending on the family.
These are the families you will find:
Barrett
Bartlett
Bills
Bowlet
Coose
Crabtree
Dennison
Dunton
Ettlinger
Fish
Gould
Grassow
Harris
Hastings
Hewitt
Hobbs
Jacobs
Keene
Layr
Merrifield
Norwood-Brodis
Payson
Pearse, John
Pearse, William
Philbrick
Pushaw
Quinn
True
Wentworth
Under Cemeteries, you will find photos for gravestones in:
Hope Grove Cemetery
Morey Hill Civil War Cemetery
In Hope Grove, I found pictured a stone
for Sarah Parkman, wife of Thomas Bartlett, died Sept. 2, 1888, AE 89 ys
11 ms.Other topics well worth a look include History and Homes.
The site also has a copy of the column I wrote about Hope Historical Society
in 2009.
