Lawrence Wright served with the Merchant
Marine in North Atlantic Convoys of which at least two trips were to Murmansk,
Steam on Ships of the Cargo Fleet
Steam on through cold and heat
Ships, sturdy and grey
Lifting your bows in flashing spray.
The Spirit of Sailors Gone
Rise out of the sea to cheer you on
And wheeling gulls up in the blue
Dip, with a cry, in salute to you.
Carry your loads to far-off lands
Carry you cargo to waiting hands
Steam on! To every clime-
So there'll be enough, and enough in time!
Poem written by Hope poetLawrence Wright on one of his many convoy trips in the North Atlantic.
