Oliver Pendleton

Capt. Oliver Pendleton sold his home on Islesboro at Dark Harbor where the Islesboro Inn in now located. In 1811 he bought the sixty acre parcel of land, a part of the Hewitt lot 98, from Micah Hobbs, and there he built a large home next to Simon Barrett's. He is probably the Capt. Oliver Pendleton who was appointed to command a galley in the Navy in 1799 when war with France seemed inevitable. He moved his large family to Hope in 1812 for safety just before the war of 1812. Many years later, after his retirement from the sea, he lived his remaining years on this farm. He died in 1843 at age 87.
