HOPE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
MINUTES FOR JULY 17 , 2018
The
meeting was called to order by Vice President, Cynthia DellaPenna at
9:30 A.M. Those attending
were Bill Jones, Bob Appleby, Gwen Brodis,
Ann Leadbetter, Nancy Ford, Barbara Ludwig, Cindy DellaPenna,
Juanita
Hunt, Emily Saladino, Donovan Bowley, Linda Hillgrove and guest,
Janice Baxstrom. This was our
day trip meeting to Amy Wilton’s
Photographic Studio in Hope.
SECRETARY’S
REPORT: Secretary, Linda Hillgrove, summarized the Minutes for June
19, 2018 which was
unanimously accepted.
TREASURER’S
REPORT: Treasurer, Gwen Brodis, reported a Balance in Savings of
$15,168.48; and Balance
in Checking of $521.27 which was unanimously
accepted. A motion was made and accepted to pay for the
building
insurance annually.
OLD
BUSINESS: Cynthia DellaPenna brought in sleigh bells which she
purchased through eBay. The original
sleigh bells were found buried
on the old William Light farm, which they owned on Route 235 in Hope
in the
1980s. These bells disintegrated after exposure to the
atmosphere. Cindy is adding the sleigh bell to the
Traveling Trunk
with a history of how they were attached to sleigh harnesses to alert
pedestrians and other
travelers of their presence.
Emily
Saladino suggested advertising with posters or newspaper articles to
inform the public about the
Chest which will be sent to schools to
educate children about articles used in the past which they can
observe
and read about as well as handle. We voted to proceed with
meeting the need to fill the chest.
BUILDING
REPORT: Volunteers for Spring Cleanup are needed. The new window
frames need painting and
some need repainting. There is wallpaper
which needs to be repasted.
PROGRAM
CHAIR: Program Chair, Ann Leadbetter, announced the speaker for the
August 21st
meeting will
be David Smith. He will discuss production of maple
syrup.
Some refreshments were furnished by Ann Leadbetter, and Gwen Brodis.
