Hope Historical Society
Minutes for June 16, 2026

The meeting was called to order at 6:38 P. M. by President Marie Berry. Attendees included Ron Smith, Gwen Brodis, Margaret Morse, Juanita Hunt, Marie Berry, Sonja Howard, Catherine Pease, Ann Leadbetter, Mary Ireland, Bill Jones, Judith Jones, Linda Black, Bruce Linthicum, Ruth Winchenbach, Dana Winchenbach, and Linda Hillgrove.

SECRETARY'S REPORT: Copies of the Secetary's Report were made available to those who might not have internet services. A motion to accept the Secretary's Report was made and seconded.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Treasurer, Sonja Howard, reviewed the Treasurer's Report and a motion to accept said report was made and seconded.

OLD BUSINESS: July 25th we will be celebrating Hope Day starting with a parade lining up at 10:30 A.M. Catherine Pease is organizing games, a treasure hunt with historical theme. There will be cotton candy, framed prints of canning labels, crafts for sale. There will be a map board for people to share stories as to why they moved/love it here and where they moved from. Free water will be provided.

Volunteers are needed at the historical home from 10:00 A. M. to 4:00 P. M.to assist visitors.

NEW BUSINESS: While discussing the need to have the new ramp and back steps stained, the subject of the house painting, the question arose as to whether the shutters should be painted and re-hung. It was decided that old homes did not include outside shutters.They will not be re-attached. Ron Smith has been helpful in organizing the purchase and installation of the ramp and back steps, thank you, Ron Smith and Bruce Linthicum for building the ramp.

Our yearly yard sale will be held September 19th and 20th at Gwen Brodis' garade on Buzzell Hill Road, Union, as it will be a larger area and more donations. More information to come.

A meeting to review and update the By-Laws will be held in July or August.

Breakwater yard services will be asked to weed wack the ditches and furnish a bill for services rendered.

We had a down home discussion on different topics from recalling hill and mountains names and how things have changed. Will update later regarding the speaker.

Refreshments were furnished by Catherine Pease, Sonja Howard and Linda Hillgrove. The next meeting will be held July 21st at 6:30 P.M. at the Hope Historical Home. All are welcome.
