HOPE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Minutes for May 17, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 7:08 P.M. by President Donovan Bowley. Members present were Donovan Bowley, Bob Appleby, Bill Jones, Gwen Brodis, Ann Leadbetter, Marie Berry, Tom and Nancy Ford, Barbara Ludwig, Ron Smith, and Linda Hillgrove.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: The April 19, 2016 Minutes were summarized and unanimously approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer, Gwen Brodis, reported the Balance on Hand: Checking account balance of $209.19 and Savings of $7098.20. The Expense Total was $490.97 which included a purchase of the Epson EX3240SVGA 31 projector of $399.00. The total income was $509.15.

WEBMASTER: Bob Appleby stated there are 23 Unique hits daily on the HHS website. Click on “Statistics” on our website to find the list. Donovan explained how to identify scams stating Tidewater has a “Black List” and a “White List” which identifies inappropriate/appropriate sites.

OLD BUSINESS: We need a projector screen to use with the new Computer Projector. Ron Smith stated the Library might loan their screen when needed.

NEW BUSINESS: Election Day Bake and Handicraft sale will be held on Election Day, June 14th. Gwen would like to have lots of baked goods and Florance Merrifield will provide her handmade items which will benefit the HHS.

The Memory Garden is in need of a total facelift starting with cultivating and amending the soil. We discussed the lawn mowing problem and setting up a Nominating Committee for fall elections. Two committee members were appointed: Marie Berry and Ann Leadbetter; a third member is needed. If interested, please see Donovan.

PROGRAM COORDINATOR: Ann Leadbetter announced Donovan as the substitute speaker. He showed us an enlarged copy of the map found at the Conway House in Camden regarding mid coast boundaries and roads circa 1789. Donovan had pictures of the same area from Google Earth which showed some of the same roads as on the Conway House map. One was the Kennebec Road which was previously named The General Henry Knox Road.

On June 21st Meghan Vigeant will present the topic: “Stories to Tell” at the 7:00 P.M. meeting.
