Hope Historical Society Minutes
SEPTEMBER 16, 2025
The meeting was called to order by President, Juanita Hunt. Those members attending were: Catherine Pease, Ron Howard, Mary Ireland, Nancy Ford, Margaret Morse, Juanita Hunt, Ron Smith, Judith Jones, Bill Jones, Dana Winchenbach, Ruth Winchenbach, Linda Black, Bruce Linthcum, Donovan A. R. Bowley, Marie S. Berry, Gwen Brodis, and Linda Hillgrove. Guests attending were: Ralph Richardson, Alan Talbot, Roger Moody, and Audrey Moody.
SECRETARY'S REPORT: Copies were provided for those without a computer. A motion to accept the Minutes was made by Gwen and Catherine seconded that motion.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Gwen reported an Income of $481.08; Expenses of $688.08; Balance in Checking is $1,104.51; Balance in Savings is $21,407.83 in a 3% high yield Money Market account.
Gwen confirmed the number of people who wanted to attend the work shop at Lincolnville Historical Society building on September 19th.
OLD BUSINESS: A walk through by the maintenance person(s) was done. Eight of the 21 items needing attention have been done or in the process of being completed. All the work was done by volunteers and donations with no monetary output.
NEW BUSINESS: Marie reminded us about the Hope Apple Fest to be held October 12th from 10 A. M. to 4:00 P. M. We will sell apple pie slices and food items with an apple theme. Raffle tickets, calendars, and apple themed crafts will also be available.
Tuesday, October 21st is our Pot Luck and Annual Meeting, which includes election of officers. (Speak to Mary Ireland if you are interested in running for an office). Brunch will start at 6:00 P. M. Please bring your own place settings and favorite food items to share. Drinks will be furnished.
Juanita received information from May Kay Felton, Regent, Lady Knox DAR regarding “Parade of Patriots” for the Thomaston Fourth of July celebration which will honor 438 Revolutionary War Patriots buried in Knox County (that we know of)! If you are a descendant or just interested in local history, ask your friends, your kids to volunteer to walk July 4th. No costumes, wear white shirts, jeans, jean shorts/skirts and carry a hand held American flag.
Juanita has a paper from Penobscot Marine Museum with a list of subjects being offered for study. Check with Juanita for more information. The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 P. M.
Refreshments were furnished by Margaret and Juanita.
Ron Howard introduced, Roger A. Moody, speaker for the evening, regarding "Sporting Camps" in Northern Maine. Mr. Moody is working on his fifth book "In the Maine Woods, 1918".
Our speaker will be Everett Hobbs Smith Jr, sharing the history of farming in Hope, including his own family's past and present initiatives.
